Emily thought the drama in her life was finally over. After her sister’s mysterious murder, Emily and her family left Dallas, Texas, for a new start in the rural town of Beckley, West Virginia. Everything seemed perfect. She was popular in school, doing well in her classes and even got a cute new boyfriend named Maxwell Snow. But just as everything seems to be going smoothly, a new boy named Julian arrives at school. Dark and wild, Julian seems to be the complete opposite of her perfect boyfriend, Max. But for some reason, Emily can’t stop thinking about this peculiar new boy who haunts her dreams. Who is he and why is she mysteriously drawn to him? Will she finally find some answers to her sister’s murder? Get ready to learn about a completely "new" version of vampires. Suddenly, Emily’s life seems to have a lot more drama, and it has only begun.
I really enjoyed reading Angie Reed’s novel, Hybrid. I am a huge fan of vampire books and this one did not disappoint. The plot was fun and entertaining and kept me on the edge of my seat. Also, I loved how every chapter opened with a quotation from a "famous" vampire. It was a suspenseful read and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series! My only concerns where that the dialogue at times sounded forced and fake and a little immature for a young adult novel. The dialogue didn’t seem real or genuine. Also, I think that the character development of the main character, Emily, could have been a little more extensive. After reading the novel, I didn’t have a good grasp of her personality, and I think that more details would have been nice. Also, I thought it was a little weird that there was basically no mention of vampires until the very end of the novel. I do believe, however, that fans of Twilight will enjoy this new series and find themselves cheering for two new teams: Team Max and Team Julian. Who will Emily choose? Read to find out!

hybrid

Hybrid tells of 16-year-old Emily "Dallas" Reed, who's family relocated from Texas to West Virginia after the murder of its youngest member, a 4-year-old girl with Down's Syndrome. Though nervous about attending a new school, Dallas makes friends quickly and even scores a dreamy boyfriend. She's a likable lead, more confident of her good looks, in a non-manipulative, non-obsessive way, than is typical in the teen television and books I've been exposed to. The plot could move along a little more… Continue
