Comment by Amber Stults on May 12, 2009 at 7:41pm: I just finished Hotel On the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. Sounds like it should be about a chocolate shop in a hotel but it's not. :) The chapters tell the tale of a Chinese boy in Seattle during WWII versus what is happening to the Chinese man in 1986. Quite interesing and good.

I'm in the middle of The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. This is her first novel from what I understand. While she gets pretty wordy and long-winded with the story telling (apparently she did 10 years of research on this) it's a good read - about Dracula! He lives! Another fun "chapter" to add in our fascination of this slick monster.

Comment by Amber Stults on July 4, 2008 at 4:18pm: Right now I'm reading The Hunters by Claire Messud. I'm on the first novella in the collection. I think she does a great job of meandering off on what seems like a tangent then tieing it into the story.

Comment by Amber Stults on June 1, 2008 at 11:41am: The last book read was ErRatic by ND Hansen-Hill. It's billed as a paranormal suspense novel but it also had some romance too. But it wasn't mushy. :) Some of the paranormal stuff isn't for the squeamish.

Comment by David on April 29, 2008 at 12:43pm: I have just finished JG Ballard’s ‘The Crystal World’. I feel rather disappointed in the novel, the characters and the plot did not catch my imagination. I have read Ballard’s ‘The drowned world’ and ‘The Drought’ and enjoyed both of them. I don’t think I would recommend ‘The Crystal World’ to anyone.

Comment by Amber Stults on April 28, 2008 at 4:50pm: I just finished the original story featuring Sweeney Todd called "The String of Pearls: A Romance". I've seen Tim Burton's movie adaptation but I'm not familiar with any of the stage productions or any of the other movie adaptations. Overall I enjoyed it and it gave me a good grasp of the elements of a Victorian novel.
