The Writers Network at OnceWritten.com

Thanks for dropping by. We're really glad you've joined us and we're looking forward to getting to know you.

Notes:

When you make your initial introduction, go ahead and create a "new topic" for yourself, instead of getting lost in the shuffle by replying to someone else's greeting.

Also, please limit your commercials (about your books, websites, etc.) and mostly include them in your signature file.

Cheers.

Hey thanks for letting my join, I have been writing for somthing like 20 odd years and altho I have had things published I am now in my 40's and feel time is passing me by so this is my big push to get published and perhaps yes only perhaps I might even make a living from it.

I live in Ipswich which is in the county of Suffok to the south East of England UK about 60 kms from London where I was born, I hope to have a lot of input to the site and learn things but most of all I hope this is the big push I need.

I hope it's the big push you need too. Let us know if we can do anything else to nudge you!

Monica, I would like to know if you EVER intend to announce a winner for the 2008 Fall Fiction contest?

I was excited about the contest (not about being the winner, but just to have entered and discovered who might best me), but the deadline has come and gone. You were supposed to announce a winner on January 15, 2009. Here it is, February 11, 2009 (almost a month later!) and still, you have not announced a winner! WTF?

Myself and other people paid money to enter this contest and you brush it off? A) That's stealing, and B) that's completely unprofessional!

Also, I tried to read the stories selected as winners in the 2008 Midnight Hour Halloween Fiction contest, but you have not even posted their stories. The links are there, but they're broken!

I'd love to rant and get extremely nasty here because I am so mad, but I am refraining, trying to remain adult about this. I have kept my eye on this contest since the deadline. When I saw no change on the winner's page, I assumed you might have gotten behind, possibly overwhelmed. A friend and I speculated that maybe something tragic happened to you, perhaps you were in an auto accident, or in the hospital. We even thought--gasp!--maybe she died. However, I now find posts on this site from you post-dating the contest's date to announce the winner. You are obviously in fine health and able to perform your work for the site. So why, praytell, don't you announce the f*&^ing winner?

This was the very first time I'd ever submitted any of my writing to a contest/publisher/etc. but you have completely bashed the confidence I had in honest, legitimate publishers out there. You, I'm afraid, rank down there with the vile, sneaky, untrustworthy publishers that writers should beware of!

YOU ARE RUNNING ONE HELL OF A SCAM! Is this how you manage to travel? Do you announce a contest, reap the entry fees, and then set off for a trip somewhere? You should be ashamed.

Sorry, we are running quite behind on posting writing contests. One of the delays is that we switched servers in December and MANY files didn't get copied over. We're still finding files (such as the Halloween contest you mentioned) that didn't make the transiton. Happily we had a good back up of everything, so you can now see the Halloween stories posted.

Things are coming together now and we're hoping to get a bulk of the results up and posted within the next week.

My best

Monica

PS I only wish we had enough contest entries for me "reap the entry fees." I'd probably be able to travel by Greyhound to the next county with what we make on these fees.

Shalom! Just wanted to introduce myself to the wonderful cliche of writers. I have written several short stories but have yet to get any published. I love writing and have even attempted on a professional level as a grant writer of 17 years and a contract administrator of 9. I love writing and I would love to get feed back from you. CAG

Hello everyone, I write, well, why else would I have joined this place?

I'm looking forward to reading and to post here.

Are there any weekly challenges type of thing? Like writing a story based on a picture or on a theme?

Hi Dragoness--

We don't have a formal place for such prompts. However, if you go to the www.OnceWritten.com main site, we update writing prompts every couple of weeks over there. Hope that helps.

This is a wonderful network. =) I'm really glad I found it and I'm equally glad that I joined. =)

Honestly, however, I don't ever see myself making comments at the brag board. I'm an extremely self conscious with amazingly low self-esteem and an inferiority complex, so just going there would damage me even more. I do, truly love to write and I will be sharing my writing here in the future - as I am too busy to share them right now, most unfortuantely - but to answer the question "Why haven't you published?", (just for the sake of answering questions) ... it's because I'm a big chicken ... and I'm too intimidated to do so.

I'll get there. Slowly but surely, the turtle will win the race...
Or will he? Well here's to hoping! ((crosses fingers))
